2019 Tres Chingones
About
The Tres Chingones, as we call them, are the three pests that can and will wreak havoc on a vineyard – the wild boar, the coyote and the starling. However, this wine is also a nod to the three grape varieties of Autrement, a wine made by Savoie producer Jacques Maillet that convinced Raj to begin leaning into more easygoing vins de soif, celebrated for their drinkability and fitfulness for casual cuisine in the likes of Parisian bistros.
A Savoie-inspired blend of Pinot Noir, Mondeuse (a parent of Syrah) and Gamay, Tres Chingones is bright and high-toned, showing elements of Framboise and strawberry leaves that lead into deeper tones of mushroomy forest floor with olive brine. There’s a real pep in its step; the wine comes in energized, juicy, brimming with red fruit and woodsy herbs as a tanginess takes hold and leaves the palate wanting another sip. For all the savory qualities embedded in a Thanksgiving meal, the vivid fruit and acidity of this wine provide the perfect complement.
